Ladies & Gentlemen,
It gives me great pleasure to invite you to a Hamden "triple-header." On Friday at 6:30 p.m., there will be a benefit softball game between the Hamden police and the Silver Bullets, a senior team organized by former Hamden Mayor John L. Carusone. Each year, the guys play a benefit softball game and this year they asked me to be honorary chair and to pick the charity. They also asked former Hamden Mayor Barbara DeNicola the same thing, as she is a breast cancer survivor. So, the proceeds from the game will go to "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer," an American Cancer Society program, and pediatric oncology research at Yale-New Haven Hospital, the charity Barbara picked. The ceremony for the game is at 6:30 p.m. Friday Sept. 26, at the Hamden High softball field, behind the school at 2040 Dixwell Ave. The game starts at 7.
From there, everyone is invited to a karaoke party that starts at 8:30 p.m. at the Hamden Elks Lodge, 175 School St. I am hosting this party, the proceeds from which will benefit "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" and Hamden Lights for Life. Organized by the Hamden High School cheerleaders with main sponsorship by UI, Lights for Life has been raising money for the Hamden satellite of the Father McGivney Cancer Care Center, which is being built next to the Hamden Surgery Center at 2080 Whitney Ave. The party runs until 12:30 a.m. Cash bar. $10 admission. Come even if you don't like to sing! It should be a blast.
Then, from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday Sept. 28, Lights for Life is holding its final fund-raiser, its actual luminaria ceremony. I am the honorary co-chair for the event. It will be beautiful. They are going to spell out H-O-P_E with the luminaria on the hill of Town Center Park at Meadowbrook, which is next to the Miller Library on Dixwell Ave. I will be presenting a check to Lights for Life that night.
