Blogs > Ann DeMatteo's Why Us?
Since my breast cancer diagnosis on June 9, 2008, I have spent a fairly decent amount of time wondering "why me?" I would like to hear from you about your cancer stories. Let's create a dialogue of learning, sharing and hope.

That red wig looks stunning, Ann.
You sure put makeup on fast, and so does Pat. ;-D
If I could do it that fast I might consider wearing it again.
Ann,
My mother battled breast cancer off and on for 17 years before she finally succumbed in 2003. In her honor and memory I have hosted a benefit class at my Jazzercise center in Hamden for the last two years and the third is coming up on 9/27.
My mom was a brave woman who dealt with many changes during the 7-8 recurrences she had. I raise money to help women like her be able to live full lives while going through this terrible ordeal.
As for the "Why me?" question, I often asked "why her?" because she was a single parent since I was 5 (she was diagnosed when I was 18) and I couldn't understand how this could happen to her. I raise money in the hopes that I will never have to ask "why me?" or "why my daughter?". The more people are educated about the disease and the more research that is done on it, I hope those questions will be asked less and less.
By raising funds I'm just doing one little part to help with research and education. So are you with your blog. I admire your courage and strength to make this personal struggle a public educational tool. I wish you all the best.
Take care,
Michelle
